Queer Cheer

Queer Cheer was created to give introverted and neurodivergent students a comfortable place to connect. Sometimes LGBTQ+ events can feel overwhelming or require a lot of interaction, so we wanted to offer something different. That’s how our Queer Cheer series started in fall 2022, and it’s been a favorite ever since.

Every week, we try a new craft or activity—like making puppets, crafting pompoms, playing board games, assembling puzzles, coloring or beading. You’ll get easy-to-follow instructions, both written and with support from friendly mentors, plus a little story about why each craft feels meaningful to our queer community. Sonja, our Pride program manager who leads the series, likes to call it “kindergarten crafts for queers”—fun, simple and creative.

Our main goal is to help everyone feel welcome and build new friendships. It’s easier to chat and meet people when you’re doing something with your hands, learning a new skill and having a shared topic to talk about. And honestly, it’s just a lot of fun!
