Sarah Fahmy (she, hers) is a PhD candidate in Theatre and Performance Studies at the University of Colorado Boulder. She is a member of the Child Language Learning Lab in Speech and Language Hearing Sciences, and is pursuing the graduate certificate in Cognitive Sciences. Her dissertation, This is What a Decolonial Young Egyptian Woman’s Voice Sounds Like, presents a foundational theoretical praxis for conducting socially engaged performance-based programs in Egypt. Her community based research is the first to utilize applied theatre to highlight Egyptian women’s contributions to regional decoloniality efforts and identity formation. It is rooted in Youth Participatory Action Research centering young women, ages 13-19, from Aswan Egypt in the development, creation and analysis of the program.This work emerged out of a longstanding partnership with the Arab Academy for Science Technology and Martime Transport and has been recognized by the Egyptian Ministry of Expatriate Affairs.
