UPDATE: For information about the second coffee hour being held today, March 16, 2017, please see this article on the CU Public Outreach and Community Engagement website.
CU Engage and the Office for Outreach and Engagement are sponsoring a series of coffee hours starting Feb. 16 to discuss community engagement.
"This coffee hour offers a time and place for people on campus to connect with each other, share stories about their community work, and imagine new possibilities for community engagement at CU Boulder," said Ben Kirshner, Director of CU Engage.
CU Boulder faculty, staff and students who are interested in community engagement are welcome, including those who are new to or experienced in this work. Attendees are welcome to drop in for five minutes or the whole time to connect with others and build community.
The first event will be held on Feb. 16 at the School of Education in room 231 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. In addition to mingling, attendees will be asked to think together about ways to organize a new Imagining America affiliation on campus and discuss the organization’s upcoming conference. Imagining America is a national higher education consortium dedicated to community engagement that highlights the humanities, arts and design.
“We are excited to bring people together around the issues that Imagining America addresses and hope we can build enthusiasm and action through our conversation,” said Lisa Schwartz, program manager from the Office for Outreach and Engagement.
The coffee hours will be held on the third Thursday of each month, and will focus on different community engagement topics that help participants learn together. Dates include Feb. 16, March 16 and April 20, and will also be held at the School of Education, Rm. 231 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.
