Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Search

The provost is the lead academic officer of the university and reports to the chancellor. 

The provost works in collaboration with the faculty, university officers, unit heads, faculty governance representatives, administrators and staff to articulate and achieve the university’s strategic mission and goals, with the focus on providing students the highest quality inclusive educational experience and fostering the university’s research and creative work mission to produce knowledge and innovation.

The advisory search committee’s role is to generate a strong pool of candidates and advise the chancellor of those candidates best qualified to meet the needs of the Office of Academic Affairs and the university. 

The advisory search committee shall recommend to the chancellor unranked finalists who are well qualified for the appointment to the position of provost of CU Boulder. Committee members shall hold the best interests of the campus ahead of their home unit or constituent group. Committee members are accountable to the committee only and are not responsible to any other group for their deliberations.

Search timeline

  • November: Search advisory committee selected
  • December: Campus listening sessions held
  • January: Nominations for provost solicited 
  • Spring 2025: Provost finalists invited to campus
  • July 1, 2025: New provost in position
