5:30 to 7:00 PM, Mountain Time
Zoom (please RSVP on Buff Portal Advising for the zoom link)

One of the students from last year’s cohort program, the illustrious Kevin Wooster, has created the MOST AMAZING interactive Excel spreadsheet with information pulled from the MSAR to help guide your process of choosing a list of MD schools. (See attached!) He has created multiple sorted sheets that will allow you to easily identify schools in categories such as the following:

  • Schools that admit large numbers of non-traditional students

  • Schools with holistic review practices regarding grades/MCAT

  • Schools with strong preferences for people from certain geographic regions and/or whose experiences are aligned with very specific missions

  • Public and private schools that “buck the trend” in terms of preference for resident/non-resident applicants

  • Schools with a strong or not-so-strong focus on research

… And so much more!

Spring 2023

Date TBD: Pre-Health Interview Strategies Presentation

5:00 to 7:00 PM, Mountain Time

You are strongly encouraged to attend this presentation (or watch the video version, posted in Step 1 on this page) if you have an upcoming committee letter interview or will be interviewing at professional schools in the coming year. The more familiar you are with the interview process, the more likely you are to do well. This workshop will cover the following topics:

  • The categories of questions that are commonly asked at professional school interviews (and an explanation of why they are asked)
  • How to structure effective answers to interview questions.
  • Tips for doing your best, plus a list of commonly-made mistakes to avoid.
  • What to expect during an interview day at a professional school.
  • And more!

Date TBD: Crash Course in Biomedical Ethics

Date TBD: Multiple Mini Interview (MMI) Practice Session

5:00 to 7:00 PM, Mountain Time

The MMI format is common at professional schools. With this format, each interviewee rotates through 6 to 10 interview stations, meeting a new interviewer and responding to a new interview prompt at each station. MMI interview questions typically include a mixture of traditional interview questions, role-playing scenarios, and responses to ethical dilemmas. At this session, you will take turns answering MMI-style questions and also serving as a peer evaluator (using a rubric as your guide). Experiencing both roles will help you become more comfortable with this style of interviewing and will allow you to gain insight into the components of effective answers.
