  • COLORADO LULLABY PROJECT 2020

This project is exciting because I do not know of anything similar to it in scope. Music is a powerful form of art that works its way into the everyday life of nearly every human; most people find a way to listen to music throughout the day, or even hum little melodies. By working with expecting mothers and creating their own lullabies, it'll be possible to bring a truly special and lasting moment into the lives of both the mother and child.

Logan Dougherty graduated with a BA degree in astrophysics in 2015. He spent several years after that degree analyzing in situ space plasma data from the Voyager spacecrafts in the jovian system. These data were collected 14 years before he was even born. Research of the space plasma lead to an academic research paper in the Journal of Geophysical Research. This analytical side of his life reached further than just physics, extending into an appreciation of the mathematical side of music. Logan loved the intricacies of all musical genres from classical pieces to modern technical progressive metal. While already familiar with percussion and piano, he quickly learned guitar to help fellow students create the metal band Endlight. The band offered ample opportunities for composition and performances on stage, but Logan left the band in 2017 to pursue music composition to its fullest.

Returning to the University of Colorado, Boulder, in 2018, Logan began his BM in Music Composition, studying under Daniel Kellogg and Carter Pann. Logan has a passion for the music of films and video games, having first been inspired by the music from iconic film composers such as John Williams and Howard Shore. He has worked on the soundtracks for video games and student short films that are still in development. His love for romanticism, impressionism, and metal extends into his writing, creating his own distinctive sound.
