Mission Statement: 

  1. The Cultural Events Board aims to broaden cultural knowledge by supporting the voices of underrepresented and misrepresented groups on campus, thereby promoting student engagement with their platforms. The Cultural Events Board encourages opportunities for interaction among students resulting in respect, appreciation, and understanding for cultural differences.

  1. Plan to have 8 booths with country specific new year traditions

  1. The goal of the event is to educate and give people space to share and celebrate their culture 

Discussion

  1. Anticipate attendees learning about many different cultures 
  1. They have solid plan for this event, and have had successful previous events, 
  1. Identified areas of opportunity and what they can do to better upcoming event

  1. What will you do differently than last year? 
  1. Because there are lots of different organizations and performers involved, they will have more interns to help communicate, so not only one person doing it all.  
  1. What will the schedule of the event look like? 
  1. Last year, there were 2 different performance times. During that time they closed all the booths. There was lots of transition between the spaces, which made it hard to get ppl’s attention.  
  1. This year, booths will not be closed, and performances will be at one time. They plan to follow a closer schedule with built in time for set up and tear down 
  1. How will you raise awareness about the event in the broader CU community? 
  1. The org has a marketing team and has already started communicating to the Asian language department, CU Boulder Today, and various Asian focused magazines 
  1. How will you track attendance 
  1. Last year, they had a check in booth, and plan to do the same this year.

  1. “Passport to Asia” - Cultural Banquet with food and performances 
  1. AU focuses on community building and creating safe spaces for Asian people, while celebrating and advocating Asian culture 
  1. At last years event, a lot of people left before headliner 
  1. AU 2025 theme: Fearless at heart, adventure in mind 
  1. Have had 220 attend last event (Lunar New Year Festival) 
  1. 450-500 people expected because of involvement from different organizations 
  1. Venue is free because of partnership with alumni 
  1. Performance 
  1. Headliner: GP- Filipino-Australian artist 
  1. Performance from CU College of music and other student orgs 
  1. This event important because want to have Asian representation at CU, this will help exploration, celebration and expression of Asian cultures

  1. AU is relying on having a bigger, more well-known artist 
  1. AU started playing the artist’s music in meetings, 
  1. Took a survey during a meeting to evaluate the member’s preferences

  1. Because the artist is famous on TikTok and well known, they are confident more people will attend 
  1. They will ask other orgs to make announcements at their meetings, have marketing in public already 
  1. How will you market the event? 
  1. Through posters around campus

  1. Want to leave a legacy for AU and connect students and alumni.

  1. Goal of event: To celebrate African culture, show practices and values, foster cultural understanding 
  1. Want attendees to learn about traditional Africa, not just what is seen on TV

  1. The event will be an interactive experience by having dances, spoken word, music, fashion, rap

  1. Health Equity and Applied Learning (HEAL): organization focuses on how social justice and public health intersect  
  1. Have partnership with Her Future Coalition (India)- supports survivors/at risk women for human trafficking, and bring awareness, education, vocational training 
  1. Speaker:

  1. Helps and encourages people begin own organization

  1. SASA focus on South Asian culture (including 8 countries), learn and celebrate culture

  1. 200-250 people typical attend events, but there was almost 300 at last event 
  1. Will have professional audio/visual team (Rockfan) 
  1. 3rd year doing show, with positive feedback from guests and performers

  1. What were some of the challenges from last year?  
  1. Rockfan showed up 1 hr late because of gameday, so pushed back schedule. Paid extra fee this time to set up early.

  1. C4C ads, posters, word-of-mouth, social media (people/orgs involved also market), connection with  other clubs at CU

  1. Want to share cultural significance with community, and give artist outlet 
  1. 15th annual street dance competition, didn't have one last year, so want to honor tradition well 
  1. one of the only hip hop competitions in Colorado 
  1. Anticipate 8-10 teams (Verve won't compete becausec they are hosts) 
  1. Dance groups from around the state will compete/sypher 
  1. 2 judges are experts who are well versed in hip hop and have worked with Verve before 
  1. Educate about hip-hop through speeches and fun facts from MC, Verve members, etc 
  1. Want to honor black culture, origins and take in other advice to be respectful
