DG Post-Event Review

.       Marketing:

  • Saw physical posters around campus
  • Could have done more emphasis on marketing
  • Lacking a little in terms of timeliness in terms of the event
  • Better communication with getting out marketing
  • Doing postering ASAP
  • Being more conscious with where we put posters
  • Did a good job of ensuring marketing did not get buried by other events/happenings on campus
  • Some members did not poster

Better marketing on social media

  • Encouraging organizations that we work with to repost/advertise t events
  • Make a more concrete plan for an advertising timeline (how/when we want to reach out to departments to spread word of the event)
  • Readily available information for marketing – socials, clips of them in movies, etc. Signed poster giveaway, pair of free tickets

    Logistics:

  • The event started practically on time
  • Balancing between speech and Q&A was good for the most part
  • Speech portion may have been a little short
  • We did not know that DG was going to walk off the stage and interact with the crowd
  • Time limit needs to be set for how long the speaker can interact with the audience
  • Student expectations should NOT be that they will get the opportunity to talk with the speaker
  • Question submissions should be the primary way for the audience to engage with speaker
  • Q&A was not representative of the entire board
  • Meetings with Q&A team should be held before the speakers’ event

    Content:

  1. Many people gave great feedback who were from outside of the Native community and who don’t usually go to CEB events
  1. Thought the event provided very interesting perspectives on environmental issues
  1. Majority of people who went to the event walked away learning something new from it
  1. SRC: It was a great event.

Future Notes/Feedback:

  • If a speakers’ event is going to be scheduled near the beginning of a semester, try and make advertising it part of fall welcome
  • Being more mindful of expected attendee turnout, and the seating capacity of the venues we want to select
  • Make physical advertising better describe what the speakers’ event will entail
  • Make information about the speaker more readily available
  • Give opportunities for prospective attendees to actively engage with the work of our speaker
  • Talk strategies for advertising our events in future meetings
  • Who can we partner/collaborate with to get word out about our speakers’ events
  • DO NOT be afraid to give suggestions for advertising!!!
  • Clarify post speech reception plans with the speaker
  • We can see about inviting RSOs to reception on a case-by-case basis
  • See if we can have a dedicated time for Q&A/Audience interaction
  • Start the moderation process earlier
  • Consider who is moderating, and if they are representative of the events audience
  • How can we do this while avoiding tokenization?
  • Give the departments that we reach out to (if we do this) more time to think on/respond to moderation opportunities
  • Start the Q&A process MUCH earlier than we did for this event
