Still time for some training tips for distance rides
By Clay Evans
With only a little more than three weeks left before the 2011 Buffalo Bicycle Classic, here's hoping you've got some training under your belt, no matter what distance you plan to ride.
Time is also beginning to run short for getting pledges to help raise money for Arts & Sciences scholarships.
But no matter where you are in your training, there's a brand, spankin' new book out that offers a wealth of information for riders like us. "Distance Cycling: Your Complete Guide for Long-Distance Rides" by Boulder's own John Hughes and Dan Kehlenbach, contributing editor to UltraCycling, offers everything on tips from training to nutrition and hydration for your ride, preventing injury and even a little psychology.
The book "focuses on the century and its 200-kilometer metric equivalent because they are the basic endurance rides," the authors write. But I think the overall information is suitable for any distance.
Clay Evans, longtime Boulder journalist and sometime cowboy, plans to ride the century. On a bike. The Elevations Buffalo Bicycle Classic, which raises funds for scholarships, includes ride distances of 14, 35, 50, 70 and 100 miles. To learn more about the Sept. 11 event or to register, click here.
