Scholar advises students to escape from stress

Lucas Wixson

Six questions for Lucas Wixson, University of Colorado student and recipient of a Buffalo Bicycle Classic Scholarship.

1. What are you studying, and what drew you to this discipline?

Biochemistry, Japanese and chemistry. I am really just going with the flow and seeing where life takes me with the majors and minor I am studying currently. I don't have a concrete path, and I enrolled myself into majors that sounded both interesting and challenging. I am also in a relationship and we are trying to experience identical paths.

2. What do you hope to be doing in a decade?

I hope to be supporting a family with an income that is beyond satisfactory with no worries. I plan to stay with my partner, and I also hope to pursue other goals such as programming and game developments. We'll see what happens, though. My priority is to live happily with those around me as well as myself.

3. If you could tell a prospective college student only one thing about higher education, what would it be?

Try your best to enjoy what you are doing, or find something to counter any stress that you are experiencing. It is extremely important to go through your college experience as stress-free as possible. You learn and remember faster when you enjoy what you are doing and have minimal stress doing so.

4. What have you found most memorable or meaningful about your time at CU?

The instructors, both the good and the bad.

5. What activities or extracurricular activities do you participate in on campus?

Currently none but that does not mean I have zero interest.

6. What does it mean to you that you were selected as a Buffalo Bicycle Classic scholar?

It is very helpful to me. It really helps towards the loans I have had to pull out and also helps prevent a ton of debt. The gatherings as well are also very friendly, and it is very nice to be in an environment with people that are not out to get you. I really like the BBC.
