'It means more than most people know'

Michael Dabit

Six questions for Michael Dabit, University of Colorado student and recipient of a Buffalo Bicycle Classic Scholarship.

1. What are you studying, and what drew you to this discipline?

I am studying molecular, cellular and developmental biology. I have been drawn to the biological field since I was a kid. In my early teen years, I decided I would become a doctor, and I am in pursuit of my goal.

2. What do you hope to be doing in a decade?

I hope to be in an established environment working as a medical doctor at either a hospital or hopefully my own practice.

3. If you could tell a prospective college student only one thing about higher education, what would it be?

It is tough, but the amount of knowledge and life experiences you earn are by far worth the hard work. Absorb as much as possible.

4. What have you found most memorable or meaningful about your time at CU?

I have found the overwhelming school spirit and dedication most meaningful.

5. What activities or extracurricular activities do you participate in on campus?

I am a MCDB mentor and help once in a while with helping younger students in classes. I am looking to join Student Emergency Medical Services through their classes. I am currently a Humane Society of Boulder Valley volunteer.

6. What does it mean to you that you were selected as a Buffalo Bicycle Classic scholar?

It means more than most people know and understand. I love Boulder, but I pay for college and thought about switching to UCCS, which is cheaper, as I would live at home. With the help of the Buffalo Bicycle Classic scholarship, I stayed at CU-Boulder, and am having success!

The Elevations Buffalo Bicycle Classic, which raises funds for scholarships, includes ride distances of 14, 35, 50, 70 and 100 miles. To learn more about the Sept. 11 event or to register, click here.
