Celeste Montoya named interim director of MASP

Celeste Montoya, associate professor of women and gender studies at the University of Colorado Boulder, has been named interim director of the Miramontes Arts & Sciences Program—or MASP.

Celeste Montoya

Montoya received her Ph.D. in political science and a graduate certificate in women, gender, and sexuality studies from Washington University in St. Louis. She joined the Department of Women & Gender Studies at CU-Boulder in 2007.

Montoya’s research focuses on the ways in which women and other marginalized groups mobilize to enact change. In particular, she is interested in how these groups work within and outside of political institutions, domestically and transnationally.

Her most recent book, From Global to Grassroots: the European Union, Transnational Advocacy, and Combating Violence against Women, was published by Oxford University Press in 2013.

The Miramontes Arts & Sciences Program supports talented and highly motivated students who are first-generation college students and/or part of traditionally underrepresented communities.

MASP is a cooperative and collaborative academic program in the College of Arts and Sciences at CU-Boulder. The program offers a participation scholarship and dedicated space for activities, study, and seminars.

This challenging and enriching program exposes students to opportunities on campus to enhance their academic experience and provides a diverse and supportive intellectual community.
