The CU-Boulder University Libraries will host a panel event celebrating the 100th anniversary of Rocky Mountain National Park on Thursday, March 5, from 4:30 to 6 p.m.

The event, “One Park, Many Perspectives: An Exploration of Rocky Mountain National Park at its Centenary,” will be held in the Center for British and Irish Studies in Norlin Library. A reception will be held in the same room prior to the event, from 4 to 4:30 p.m.

Researchers from the University of Colorado Boulder in the fields of history, geological sciences, environmental studies and linguistics will discuss how their research relates to the history, environment and culture of Rocky Mountain National Park.

Representatives from the University Libraries will present “surprising finds” and historical materials in their collections that relate to the centenary.

The panel presentation, which is an officially recognized anniversary event by the National Park Service, will feature:

  • Thomas Andrews (panelist), associate professor of history
  • Andrew Cowell (panelist), professor of linguistics
  • Phoebe Young (panelist), associate professor of History
  • Jim White (panelist), professor of geological sciences and environmental studies and fellow and director of the Institute of Arctic and Alpine Research (INSTAAR)
  • Sharon Collinge (moderator), professor and director of the Environmental Studies Program

Audience members will be able to ask questions during a Q&A session with the panelists.

Those who attend will be inspired to explore Rocky Mountain National Park with a greater appreciation and knowledge of its historical, environmental and cultural importance, the event’s organizers state. The event is sponsored by Friends of the Libraries.
