Event highlights fashion with responsible sheen
'Boulder County’s Hottest Fashion Show' benefits community service program
CU-Boulder’s International and National Voluntary Service Training (INVST) Community Service program is hosting its third semi-annual “ethical fashion show.” The fund-raising event is expected to draw about 175 people.
Along with “ethical and sustainable looks on the red carpet, the event will include a silent auction, a food truck from McDevitt’s organic tacos, the Denver Fashion Truck and local wine from Augustina’s Winery.
The event will also feature “upcycled,” thrift, local and sustainable outfits from Goodwill Industries, ARES Thrift Store, Umba Clothing Co-op, Threads 4 Thought, Stone and Arrow, Bead for Life and Rockin’ Betty’s Thrift Store.
Clothing will be modeled by students of INVST Community Studies and the local non-profit community.
During the night, guests will be exposed to the “truths of the fashion world,” including how “wearing sustainable clothing can contribute to social justice.”
“Going to local thrift stores, checking tags to avoid buying something that supports sweatshops, and consciously choosing designers who focus on ethics, recycling, upcycling and sustainability are all outcomes we’re hoping for,” an INVST announcement states.
The event is scheduled for 7 p.m. Oct. 19 at 6105 Monarch Road, between Boulder and Longmont, near IBM. The venue is being shared by INVST’s partners at the Philanthropiece Foundation. A shuttle to the event is available, leaving from central Boulder at 6 p.m.
Individual tickets to the ethical fashion show cost $15 or $35 and can be purchased in advance here. All proceeds support INVST Community Studies.
INVST Community Studies offers leadership training programs for students interested in social and environmental justice.
Since 1990, INVST Community Studies has trained young people to be effective and responsible community leaders who work for positive change. INVST Community Studies serves about 400 young people every year with four different academic programs at CU and other local schools.
