University of Washington

Jessica Kaminsky is an Assistant Professor in the Construction and Environmental Engineering Department at the University of Washington. She is particularly interested in research on infrastructure for developing communities with a focus on topics of social sustainability, water and sanitation, and the possible impact of visual research methods to this field. By focusing on sustainability of heavy civil infrastructure in developing countries at the intersection of technology, innovation and social networks, she seeks to make basic civil infrastructure better serve the world's people by enabling increased human capabilities. Jessica Kaminsky is currently working on a project to investigate how social networks effectively spread information about sanitation in low-resource areas, in addition to a project that uses photography to help disadvantaged communities adopt innovations like clean water or sanitation in a culturally relevant way. Prior to attending academic environment, Jessica worked with CH2M Hill, and is co-founder of the professional chapter of Engineers Without Borders Chicago.
