The University of Colorado at Boulder will kick off the first ever Boulder Solar Day by hosting a March 20 lecture by Alan Title, a nationally known solar physicist at the Lockheed Martin Advanced Technology Center in Palo Alto, Calif.

The talk, "Toward Understanding the Sun: Following the Trail of the Magnetic Field From the Solar Interior Through the Heliosphere," will be held at 7:30 p.m. in room A2B70 of the MCD Biology Building. The talk is free and open to the public.

Title, also a professor of physics at Stanford, is co-director of the Stanford-Lockheed Institute for Space Research in Palo Alto. He was elected to the National Academy of Sciences in 2004.

Boulder's Solar Day, to be held on March 21, is open to all area solar physicists and offers an opportunity to share new science results and develop interdisciplinary collaborations. It is sponsored by the National Center for Atmospheric Research, CU-Boulder, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the Southwest Research Institute and Colorado Research Associates.

The March 21 event will be held at NCAR's Foothills Lab in Boulder and will include talks, poster displays and discussion groups. For more information contact Emily CoBabe Amman at (303) 735-5814 or visit the Boulder Solar Day Web site at www.hao.ucar.edu/bouldersolarday/.
