Jim Barton, co-founder and chief technology officer of TiVo Inc., a pioneer in television services for digital video recorders, will speak at the University of Colorado at Boulder's Computer Science Colloquium Series on April 29.

The talk, which is free and open to the public, will be from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Engineering Center Complex, room ECCR 245.

At TiVo, Barton sets the technical vision for the company's products, services and partnerships, with special emphasis on the software and digital video streaming technologies behind the TiVo service. His talk will focus on the overall operation of the TiVo service, the business goals that drive its design and the technologies that have been applied to developing the service.

Barton, who earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in computer science at CU-Boulder, also is scheduled to visit the Electrical and Computer Engineering Expo during the morning of April 29. The ECE Expo, where students will demonstrate their capstone design projects, is open to the public from 9 a.m. to noon.
