Fiske Planetarium and Sommers-Bausch Observatory at the University of Colorado at Boulder will present three programs Jan. 24, 25 and 28 in memory of the space shuttle Challenger and CU-Boulder alumnus and astronaut Ellison Onizuka.

This month marks the 17th anniversary of the space shuttle's tragic explosion, which killed Onizuka and six others on board.

The audience will learn about scientific advances including working in a microgravity environment, the deployment of satellites and probes and how astronauts are ferried back and forth from Earth to the International Space Station. Admission is $5 for adults, $4 for students and $3 for children and seniors. The observatory will be open for free telescope viewing after the show.

On Saturday, Jan. 25, the planetarium and the observatory will offer interactive workshops for students in grades one through 12. Workshops for children in grades one through six will run from 8:30 a.m. until noon, while the programs for grades seven through 12 will begin at 12:30 p.m. and last until 4:15 p.m. Those planning to attend the Jan. 25 event must register by calling (303) 492-4562 by Jan. 20.
