A memorial service for Walter S. “Wally” Collins, professor emeritus of music and a former associate dean of the College of Music at the University of Colorado at Boulder, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 12, in Grusin Music Hall.

A reception in the new student lounge will follow the service.

Collins died June 30 of a brain aneurysm in Hyannis Port, Mass., while vacationing in Cape Cod. He was 71.

Collins taught choral music and musicology at CU’s College of Music from 1971 until his retirement in 1988 and also was associate dean for graduate studies in music during that period. He served as the CU commencement marshal from 1974 to 1988, in which he led thousands of graduates in the commencement procession before they received their diplomas.

He remained active in the music college through the spring 1996 semester.

A native of Connecticut, Collins received two bachelor’s degrees from Yale University and a master’s and doctorate from the University of Michigan. He attended Oxford University as a Fulbright scholar in 1957-58.
