What Are They?
Official transcripts are comprehensive records of your academic coursework and progress at the University of Colorado that reflect earned degrees as well as credits accepted in transfer or by exam.
Unofficial transcripts contains the same information as official transcripts, but:
- Lack the authenticity features typically required by academic institutions and potential employers
- Include your academic probation information for advising purposes, if applicable
- Display your preferred name (official transcripts display your legal name)
Order an Official Transcript
Log in to Buff Portal to check for holds before placing your order. If you have any financial obligations, please complete a Request for Release of Financial Transcript Hold. Typically, your hold will be released within 15 minutes of submitting the form.

What's Included
Select the transcript type that best meets your needs:

All CU History includes all coursework from any CU campus (includes nondegree work; excludes noncredit work). You must select this transcript type if you took:

One or more graduate courses as a nondegree student

One or more CU courses in or before 1988

Nondegree coursework for any career

Undergraduate, Graduate or Law Only includes coursework in the specified career only. Pre-1988 coursework is not available in this format.

Non-Credit Only includes noncredit coursework taken through Continuing Education.
Transfer Credits
Credits transferred from other institutions, including study abroad (starting Summer 2016), display in the "Transfer Credit and/or Study Abroad Credit Applied" section of your transcript. Note: Transfer credits are presented as total credits from each institution, not as individual courses.
AP/IB/CLEP Test Credits
Courses and credits appear in the "Transfer, Test and/or Study Abroad Credit Applied" section and include the equivalent CU course(s) for which credit was granted.
All official University of Colorado Boulder transcripts are authenticated by the following criteria.

- Registrar's signature.

All questions and concerns about the authenticity of transcripts should be directed to the Office of the Registrar.
Price Increase
As of April 1, 2024, the cost of paper and electronic transcripts will increase by $1.
Pricing & Shipping
This is the fastest and most cost-effective way to send or receive an official transcript. PDF transcripts are available for download for 30 days after purchase. It is the purchaser's responsibility to ensure the recipient downloads the transcript within that time. No refunds are given for documents not downloaded within 30 days.
Orders are typically processed within minutes, but may take up to a few hours during high-volume periods. Transcripts with pre-1988 coursework are processed within 3 to 5 business days.
- Electronic Delivery: $10 per PDF transcript
Paper transcripts are packaged individually and can only be ordered one at a time.

Completed Attachments
You may upload fully filled-out attachments to your paper or PDF transcript order using the attachment control.
Attachments Needing Staff Processing
If your attachment needs to be processed by CU Boulder staff, please email it to transcriptinfo@colorado.edu before placing your order. We will provide the required information and return it to you so you can upload it to your transcript order.
As of Fall 2022, our office no longer provides college reports, transfer reports or dean's certifications. When applying to other schools you’ll need to send your official transcript directly to those schools by following the links under Order an Official Transcript, above.
The CU Boulder transcript contains the information being requested, including, where applicable:
- Transfer credits, AP or IB credits and study abroad credits
- Cumulative and term GPA
- Major (in progress)
- Major, minor, academic certificates or licensures earned
- Terms of enrollment
- Degrees earned and degree honors
- Academic suspensions or dismissals
- Suspensions or expulsions due to student conduct or honor code violations
So long as students do not have a suspension, dismissal or expulsion noted on their official transcript, they are eligible to return to University of Colorado.
About Notary Services
A public notary is licensed by the State of Colorado to authenticate documents. Notary services may be found on campus, but policies regarding notarizing non-CU-related documentation differ by campus office and notary.
Local banks and UPS stores also provide notarization services for students and community members. If you're seeking a notarization from a UPS store on campus, please be sure to call ahead and schedule an appointment.
Requesting CU Boulder Transcript Notarization
If you need notarization for a CU Boulder paper transcript, email transcriptinfo@colorado.edu for further assistance.
If you need an apostille authentication, first request a notarized transcript. Once you receive it, forward the notarized transcript to the Colorado Secretary of State for apostille authentication. See the Secretary of State website for more information.
View Your Unofficial Transcript
Current students and prior students with no coursework on or before 1988 are eligible to download their unofficial transcript by following the instructions below:
- Log in to Buff Portal.
- On the transcripts card, select "View your unofficial transcript."
- Select your home institution and transcript type (see below for details), then click "View Unofficial Transcript."
