CU Boulder health insurance requirements
New Insurance Platform for fall 2025
CU Boulder is switching to a new platform called Care26 to manage student health insurance starting fall 2025. It’s part of our ongoing partnership with Academic HealthPlans (AHP). Care26 is designed for mobile use, making it easier to enroll or submit a waiver right from your phone—without losing any important info or functionality.
Eligible students will get emails from AHP about meeting CU Boulder's health insurance requirement or enrolling in SHIP. These emails will come from an @ahpcare.com address and link to the Care26 platform. They're legit and secure—use them to complete your insurance requirement!
All students are required to carry comprehensive health insurance while attending CU Boulder.
Who needs to complete the insurance requirement?
- Students taking six (6) or more undergraduate credit hours
- Students taking one (1) or more graduate credit hours
- International students (excluding exchange students)
You’ll need to complete the university's mandatory insurance requirement your first semester at CU and at the beginning of every academic year. Once you are registered for the minimum number of credits, you will receive introductory emails from our partners at Academic HealthPlans. You will also gain access to the insurance portal to waive or enroll in CU Boulder’s health insurance plan.
How to complete the insurance requirement
Students can complete this requirement by:
- Enrolling in the Anthem Gold Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP)
- Submitting a waiver to use your own private or personal health insurance plan*
*Please note: Those who do not submit a waiver and have it approved by the deadline will be automatically enrolled in the Anthem Gold SHIP and billed for the semester. No refunds are issued after the deadline.
