Web Express Updates - Web Express is Moving to the Cloud

The Web Express team is starting a year long process of migrating the entire service to a cloud based server infrastructure. This new server environment provides more flexibility and enhancements that will enable us to grow and expand our service as we upgrade our technology platform.

What You Can Expect

  • Sites will be migrated in groupings by site type (e.g. Labs sites, Faculty sites)
  • Site owners will be emailed in advance of their scheduled migration date
  • Sites will be locked for approximately one hour from content edits
  • No down time is expected for your website
  • URL patterns will change to subdomain patterns (e.g. labs.colorado.edu/sitename)
  • Redirects from old URL patterns to the new will be implemented during the migration

URL Pattern Changes

Currently we have URL patterns that group similar websites under a common structure. We will continue to keep these group URL patterns but they will change to a subdomain pattern. For example, the following URL patterns will change:

  • From colorado.edu/labs/sitename to labs.colorado.edu/sitename
  • From colorado.edu/faculty/siitename to faculty.colorado.edu/sitename

The URL patterns will give us greater flexibility in the future to meet the specific needs of different groups - particularly around search and findability.

Next Steps

The first grouping of site types to migrate will be Lab and Faculty websites in March. Site owners for Lab and Faculty sites will receive the first email one week in advance of the scheduled migration date. We will continue to schedule the remaining groups for migrations starting in Spring 2020.
