Getting Involved

Every summer, a new cohort of INVST students at CU Boulder travels throughout the southwestern United States to learn about a specific topic and take action. This year’s theme is sustainability.

This summer, faculty and staff from across campus participated in the first-ever Student Affairs Service Days. Seventy participants volunteered with four local organizations over three different days, donating 246 hours of their time.

No summer slowdown exists for the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Community Engagement (ODECE). In partnership with academic departments across campus, ODECE hosts more than 1,500 middle and high school students, and soon-to-be freshmen in a variety of summer pre-collegiate programming.

Summer is getaway season, but even if you’re low on time or funds, you don’t have to miss out! Set aside a day or two for microtravel. Make a list of all the things you’ve been dying to do in town, find a new restaurant to try, or just pack a lunch and hit the trails. Make it happen with this month’s issue of Student Health 101 online magazine.

For Professor Sarah Krakoff and students from CU-Boulder, spring marks a transition from the halls of the Wolf Law Building to the fields of the San Luis Valley. Since 2012, Krakoff and her law students have regularly trekked to one of the largest high altitude deserts in the world, where they clear debris from irrigation ditches or acequias and provide free legal assistance to farmers whose water rights are in question.
On Friday, April 29, students in need of a study break colored their stress away in the quiet, colorful BioLounge at the CU Museum of Natural History. Piggybacking on the popularity of adult coloring books, Sally Robertson, a graduate student in Museum and Field Studies, created “Coloring Craze” to help students decompress leading into finals week.
The CU-Boulder campus is home to numerous spots to refuel during the school year. With the end of the semester in sight, don't forget there are plenty of quick, convenient places to grab a bite or a cup of coffee or tea.
Take a break from finals and enjoy Late Night Breakfast on Monday, May 2, 8 to 11 p.m. in the UMC. Join the Center for Student Involvement for free food, bowling, massages and bounce through a giant inflatable obstacle course.-
Nearly 500 middle school students from Angevine Middle School in Lafayette are heading to the University of Colorado Boulder on April 27 and 28 to get a taste of college life.

The sixth- and seventh-graders will do hands-on science projects, visit the CU-Boulder Museum of Natural History, participate in dance workshops, and watch a rousing theater production about the U.S. Presidents. Faculty and staff from the museum, Science Discovery, the Partnerships for Informal Science Education in the Community, and the Department of Theatre and Dance will be leading the sessions.

Each month, CU-Boulder's Environmental Center provides eco-tips with the goal of promoting sustainable choices. March's topic is green travel.
