Herd Leadership Council

There is also an opportunity to make an impact in the CU community by serving on the Herd Leadership Council. Any CU Boulder student is eligible to apply to the Herd Leadership Council. Herd leaders learn valuable skills in communication, event planning, marketing and time management while working with alumni and key campus officials to influence change on campus. Council members also develop important leadership skills.

Meet the 2017-2018 Herd Leaders

Holland Parker

Herd President

Holland Parker 

Majors: International Affairs and Chinese
Graduation Year: 2019

Holland is a third-year student studying International Affairs, Chinese, and Peace & Conflict Studies. Outside from being a part of the Herd Leadership Council, she enjoys reading, traveling, rock climbing, and listening to lots of Beyonce. She hopes to one day be able to speak five languages and work as an international human rights lawyer.

Emma Hagen

Originally from Durango CO, Emma was born and raised in the small mountain town and has always had a love for Colorado and the outdoors. She is a senior going into her final year studying Biochemistry. Ideally she would love to work in the research industry and study the reactions and spread of diseases. When she has free time Emma enjoys spending time with friends, hiking, playing tennis and hopping around the local coffee shop scene. 

Nora Abel

Nora is a senior studying advertising in CMCI. She studied abroad during Spring 2017 in Barcelona and traveled all around Europe! She has been a Herd leader since January 2015 and is an active member of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority.

Nikkie is a senior originally from Baltimore Maryland who grew up in South Florida. She fell in love with the CU campus and decided to trade the beach for the mountains. She's always had a passion for learning about different cultures and political regimes. When not in school; she enjoys reading utopian novels, cooking and tasting wines, working out, dancing, and traveling. Nikkie would love to continue traveling the world and would live and work outside the U.S. Her ultimate goal is to find a way to combine all her passions into her career post college.

Katrina is currently a sophomore student studying Integrative Physiology at CU. She is an international student from China and joined the Herd in her first year of college. Outside of school, she enjoys taking road trips, photography, and going to concerts. She likes to experience different cultures from different places. She also likes observing new good food, movies, and hanging out with friends! 

Michaela Higgins

Michaela is a senior studying International Affairs and German. When she is not tending to school or work matters, she spends her time outside. Skiing, backpacking, rock climbing, traveling, and the environment are her biggest passions. Michaela spent her junior year doing two abroad semesters, one in Dunedin, New Zealand and the other in Regensburg, Germany. 

Josh Ney

Josh is a rising sophomore at the University of Colorado – Boulder. He was born and raised in Coal Creek Canyon, Colorado, a small mountain town about 35 minutes from Boulder. After attending a very small school until 8th grade, Josh headed down to Ralston Valley in Arvada. At Ralston, he played soccer all four years as well as made sure to keep his grades up! Josh applied to 10 different colleges and finally decided on CU where he is currently in the Leeds School of Business studying business management. He also plans to get a second emphasis in either marketing or finance. Outside of school Josh really loves the outdoors, especially the mountains. His favorite hobby is snowboarding but he also loves hiking, ice-climbing, fishing, camping, and really anything outdoors. Josh loves hanging with other people and tries to live every moment of life too the fullest. He is not exactly sure what his future has in store, but he hopes to use his degree to help benefit society and ultimately to live a life he loves!

Courtney is a freshman studying psychology on the pre-health track. She hopes to one day become a psychiatrist. In her free time she likes to take pictures, go to concerts, see shows at the DCPA, and spend time with her friends at the local coffee shops.

Sarah was born and raised in Boulder CO, starting elementary school at University Hill Elementary and now at the University of Colorado right across the street! Outside of The Herd Leadership Council Sarah is involved on campus with the Norlin Scholars Community, CU Restorative Justice and is a member of Delta Gamma Sorority. On her free time she enjoys baking, dancing, traveling, spending time with family and going on adventures. She hopes to one day pursue a career in the hospitality and management industry by continuing a path in wedding planning. Sarah is honored to be a part of the CU Boulder Alumni Community and serve on The Herd Leadership Council.

Hannah is currently a sophomore at the University of Colorado Boulder studying Integrated Physiology. In her future, she wants to become a Physician’s Assistant and work with kids in a pediatric doctor office. In her free time, she likes to go hiking, take pictures, listen to music, and volunteer. She loves getting involved in the CU Boulder community in activities such as club tennis, internships, and is a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority.

Nick graduated from Loyola High School in Los Angeles, CA. He wants to be a broadcaster journalist, specifically with sports. Outside of class, he likes to read, hang out with friends, spend time at the beach, and listen to music.

Originally from Maryland, Ian moved to Colorado in 8th grade and has loved it ever since! Hooked by CU’s new and innovative College of Media, Communication, and Information, Ian chose to study Strategic Communication with a focus in Public Relations as a Dean’s Scholar. After three years of an accelerated business program in high school, Ian holds Certificate of Business Specialization from Front Range Community College. He hopes to hold an executive position in communications at an existing company or perhaps pursue his own entrepreneurial ambitions. Outside of the council, Ian is honored to be involved with the American Red Cross, serving on the National Youth Council as well as his region’s local youth advisory board. Within CU, he has joined CMCI Student Government, Advertising Club, Asian Unity, and plans to join other organizations his first year. Ian is so excited to be a part of The Herd Leadership Council and connect with fellow students. On his free time he enjoys binge-watching on Netflix, volunteering, spending time with friends, and getting late-night gelato.

Emma Steyaert

Emma is a freshman at CU Boulder and this is her first year on the Herd Leadership Council. Although originally from Austin, Texas, she still hates the heat! She is majoring in International Affairs and hopes to use her degree to travel the world and benefit others. In her free time, she loves trying out new places to eat, cheering on the Buffs at football games, playing water polo, swimming, and exploring Colorado.

Maddie Barbera

Maddie was born in Southern California, but almost immediately moved to Colorado where she has lived almost all her life. As an English major, Maddie enjoys reading and writing. Outside of school she is an avid skier, water skier, and wakeboarder. After being born with a type of congenital heart disease, Maddie has attended and dedicated a lot of her time to a nonprofit, medically supervised summer camp in California for kids with heart disease, called Camp Taylor. At camp, she mentors families and children living with CHD. She is super excited to be joining the Herd Leadership Council this year!

Cameron is a 2nd year college student studying Film Production and Astrophysics. After a year of studying Film in Boston, he realized he couldn't live a life without having some space. Cameron is now committed to finding a combination of the two majors in the real world. Outside of his majors, he enjoys giving back to the community, playing guitar and piano, and listening to classic rock as a way to forget about all the homework due tomorrowmorning.
