Dave Newport

Dave Newport is CU’s Environmental Center Director. Dave chaired CU’s Carbon Neutrality Working Group and led the team developing CU’s first climate action plan. He taught Carbon Neutrality Planning at CU and is one of three original co-creators of AASHE’s campus sustainability metrics standard, the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment and Ratings System (STARS). Dave previously worked for the University of Florida as UF’s first Director of the Office of Sustainability while elected as County Commissioner/Chair of Alachua County, Florida. Dave has also performed environmental research for the pulp/paper industry and EPA, and has taught environmental science technology at Santa Fe College.
