Student Affairs Staff Onboarding Experience

Onboarding is the process of getting new staff to higher levels of productivity, faster, over their first 12 months. When supervisors take intentional steps to ensure that a new staff member’s needs are met and they understand their role and expectations, it can be a better experience for all. Supervisors can also help new staff make connections and get involved, cultivating a sense of belonging and engagement. Ultimately, supervisors have the opportunity to create a defining moment in their new hire’s CU Boulder journey.
The Student Affairs Staff Onboarding Experience aims to create a consistent process across departments, with resources and guides for both new hires and supervisors.
Onboarding resources
When a new staff member is hired in the Division of Student Affairs, both the new hire and their supervisor will receive an email from SA HR detailing the onboarding process.
New staff
New staff members will be directed to visit the Getting Started in the Division of Student Affairs webpage.
This guide outlines tasks for the new hire to complete and information to help them get started in their new role.
Supervisors
Supervisors are expected to follow the checklists in the Student Affairs Onboarding Guide for Supervisors.
This guide has tasks for the supervisor to complete at certain points in their new hire’s first month, and additional resources.
These guides also highlight key campus programs that are offered for new staff including QuickStart, the New Employee Welcome Experience, CU Discover series and more.
New Employee Orientation
The Student Affairs Onboarding Experience includes participation in the division’s New Employee Orientation. This day-long event will be held quarterly, and all new staff members are expected to attend. Throughout the day, new staff will hear from divisional experts as they discuss who we are as a division, share opportunities to get involved and provide insight into how new individuals fit into the bigger picture.
The first full-day New Employee Orientation will be Wednesday, April 24. New staff members are encouraged to participate if they have not already attended an orientation.
