The 2018 – 19 performance cycle for university staff will end on January 31. All signed university staff performance evaluations are due to Employee Relations by March 1. Please check with your department’s HR team to determine if evaluations are due earlier in your particular area as this varies by department. For more details on the University Staff Performance Program visit the SA Performance Management website.

Helpful tips for employee evaluations:

  • Request a self-evaluation from your employees. Consider the employees' self-evaluation in completing your assessment of their performance.
  • Review the employee's performance for the entire performance cycle, not just the last few months.
  • Consider how the employee's accomplishments contributed to the department goals, the division’s strategic plan and the university's imperatives.
  • Review any notes you have kept throughout the year regarding the employee's performance.
  • Speak with departments or individuals that the employee works closely with to capture feedback on the employee's performance.

Consider using Performance Calibration in your unit or department. Performance calibration is a two-step process that ensures supervisors apply similar standards across all of their employees.

For more information about this process and additional resources, please visit the SA Performance Management website or contact your department HR liaison.
