Microsoft Power BI is a dynamic tool that helps you to make sense of your data by efficiently analyzing and creating reports with interactive visualizations from a variety of data sources. This training, designed for both report creators and consumers, will provide an overview of Power BI functionality, the difference between Power BI Desktop and Power BI Service including when and how to use each and how to navigate and share reports.
Creating Power BI Reports from Excel Data
Monday, October 19 | 2 to 3:30 p.m. | Virtually via Zoom
Much of the data we analyze and report on is currently stored in or exported to Microsoft Excel files (including Qualtrics survey data). In this training designed for report creators, we will review how to import, clean and transform data from Excel files using Power BI for easier analysis and reporting. Participants will have the opportunity to practice these steps during the training.
Analyzing Complex Data & Creating Engaging Visuals in Power BI
Monday, November 23 | 2 to 3:30 p.m. | Virtually via Zoom
Sometimes, the data we import into Power BI does not include everything needed to answer the most important questions for our units. Designed for report creators, this training will review how to create measures such as frequencies, averages, and summations, how to add custom columns with new data, and how to manage relationships to link multiple tables of data in one Power BI report – all in order to create engaging visuals for report consumers. We will also discuss how to connect to data models through the data warehouse.
How to Tell Your Story with Power BI

Creating engaging visuals in Power BI is just the first step to telling your story. This training will provide report creators and consumers with best practices on how to effectively present your data to a variety of audiences using Power BI reports and dashboards.
