Biography

As vice chancellor and chief information officer, Marin Stanek provides strategic IT leadership and oversees the Office of Information Technology (OIT), which provides enterprise IT services, support and resources for the university's research, academic and administrative needs. She reports to the executive vice chancellor and chief operating officer and is a member of the University Executive Leadership Team.

Marin has held a number of leadership roles over the past twenty years at CU Boulder. Prior to being named CIO, she led OIT’s day-to-day operations as deputy CIO, co-leading comprehensive services for academic technology, research computing, enterprise services, IT operations and infrastructure, and enterprise architecture. In 2019, she served as interim assistant vice chancellor for the Office of Data Analytics (ODA).

Before joining CU Boulder, she worked at Colorado State University, the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the University of Wisconsin-Extension. She has also taught a higher education information technology course to graduate students in CU Boulder’s School of Education.

Marin holds a bachelor’s degree in International Political Economics from Colorado College and a master’s degree and doctorate in Higher Education Administration and Leadership, with emphasis on emerging educational technology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Her postdoc leadership training includes a Harvard Law negotiation program, the Stanford University Innovative Technology Leader program and the Institute for Management and Leadership from the Harvard University Graduate School of Education.

Born on the Western Slope, she enjoys being in the Colorado mountains—both skiing and hiking—as much as possible.
