Spanish 2110 with a D- or better. However, if you want to move to the next level, Spanish 2120, you must have a C- or better in Spanish 2110.
The Spanish courses marked as sections 800 and/or 801 are part of our Modified Language Program (MLP), which is a program designed for students who have a history of extreme challenge with language learning and may have a variety of needs or classroom accommodations that are not provided in the mainstream program. In order to be admitted into the course, the ML Program requires an admissions interview with our MLP coordinator in ALTEC to determine whether or not this is the appropriate program for the student. Students CANNOT take courses in the MLP without going through the interview process and being officially admitted. More information can be found here.
Spanish 2150-800 is a controlled enrollment intensive course. It covers all the grammar learned in Spanish 1010 and 1020, plus the additional grammar of Spanish 2110 and 2120. Please bear in mind that it is a fast-paced course covering a wide range of material.To receive permission to enroll in this course, please email Susan Hallstead with the following information: 1. Your previous experience learning Spanish and/or another foreign language; 2. Why you feel you are prepared to take an intensive year-long course compressed into one semester; and 3. A screenshot of your online placement exam score (online placement exam accessible here).
The Foreign Language Acheivement Test is taken by CU-Boulder students who wish to be exempt from the 3-semester College of Arts & Sciences foreign language requirement. (The College of Engineering and Applied Science and the Leeds School of Business may also accept this test.)
There are 56 language FLATs available by special order through Brigham Young University (BYU). Once the tester has completed the exam, tests are sent back to BYU for grading. A final exemption as pass or fail will be sent to CU four to six weeks after the test is taken. No credit hours are granted from these tests. NOTE: This test is not to be confused with the placement exam, which is mandatory for all freshmen and transfer students to register for a foreign language course. FLATs exemption language tests cannot be used for placement purposes, nor can the placement exams be used for exemption purposes.
Test fees for FLATs are $50 (to order from BYU) + $35 (to administer) = $85.

Even though this exam is not an exemption exam, it is a useful tool to determine your proficiency in Spanish.
Please note that after taking the test you must enroll in the level indicated. Simply taking the placement exam does not automatically enroll you in a course, nor does it grant credits for courses out of which you might place.
Please email the Spanish & Portuguese Department to be enrolled in a level for which you have not completed the prerequisites and notify us to check your exam score; upon doing so we can enroll you.
SPAN 1150 is an intensive Spanish course that combines both SPAN 1010 and SPAN 1020 into one semester. It will meet 5 days a week, and this class will be fast-paced. Why you feel you are prepared to take an intensive year-long course compressed into one semester; and 3. A screenshot of your online placement exam score (online placement exam accessible here).
