Certificate

The Vision

One of the major goals of the CSPC is to incorporate and educate students in the field of space policy. To do so, we plan to implement a Certificate of Space Policy into CU Boulder's existing course structures, bridging the gap between technical aerospace expertise and the complex world of global governance.

As the commercial space sector expands and international competition for orbital resources intensifies, the need for policy-literate engineers and scientifically-informed policymakers is of utmost importance. This certificate is designed to equip the next generation of leaders in these fields with the tools to navigate:

  • International Space Law: Understanding the treaties and norms that govern behavior beyond Earth's atmosphere
  • Orbital Sustainability: Addressing the growing challenges of space debris and traffic management
  • Commercial Innovation: Analyzing the regulatory frameworks that support (and sometimes hinder) the private space industry
  • Ethics and Exploration: Engaging with the philosophical and societal implications of becoming a multi-planetary species

Program Status: Under Development

Please note that the Certificate of Space Policy is currently in the development and proposal phase. Due to the interdisciplinary nature of the work we do, we are working closely with various departmental leads to ensure the curriculum meets the highest standards of academic rigor and relevance.
