Phaedra C. Pezzullo

Pezzullo serves as a founding Co-Director of the Just Transition Collaborative, which engages in inclusive partnerships, projects, and policy research to advance climate justice in the transition from a carbon-based extractive economy to a sustainable, living culture. She also is a co-director of Inside the Greenhouse, which fosters creative climate communication for decision-makers, youth, and frontline communities.

Pezzullo authored the highly-regarded book, Toxic Tourism: Rhetorics of Travel, Pollution, and Environmental Justice (University of Alabama Press, 2007), which won four book awards. She also has coauthored and/or (co)edited five additional books, including the textbook Environmental Communication and the Public Sphere, 5th Ed. (Sage,  2018), which has a new edition forthcoming in 2021. She has a forthcoming coedited book in English and Chinese, Green Communication and China: On Crisis, Care, and Global Futures (Michigan State University Press and Communication University of China, 2020). Pezzullo also has colaunched a new University of California book series: Environmental Communication, Power, and Culture.

She has been an invited lecturer throughout the US and internationally, including the Grand Amphithéâtre de la Sorbonne, Université de Paris-Sorbonne in Paris, France, Fudan University in Shanghai, China.
