Open book with pages folded to make a heart. Building empathy is central to the Build a Better Book project and for creating inclusive and accessible materials. While much of the work done with the BBB network is focused on blindness and visual impairments, there are many overlaps with a wide range of other disabilities. The Iris Center at Vanderbuilt University has compiled a comprehensive list of children's and young adult books that portray people with learning and physical disabilities. Reading and sharing these stories can make a big impact on students and instructors, for educating ourselves and understanding the needs and experiences of others. The Iris Center booklist and others can be found under Books & Movies on the BBB Resources webpage.
