Bio:
DeAnna Lee-Rivers has been an educator for over 11 years in South Los Angeles. She has taught AP Environmental Science, general environmental science, biology, worked as Student Activities Director, and taught student government/leadership. DeAnna began teaching because she wanted to encourage more students of color and preferably women into degrees and careers in science and knew that she needed to meet them where they are beginning to shape their identities and are beginning to decide how they want to show up in the world. She strives to continue to dare students to critically think and challenge assumed notions of race, class, social economic status, sexuality, and environment. In her classroom, individuality and empowerment are encouraged and respected. Students are given the tools and encouragement to use their learning to take action and elevate the quality of life for themselves, their families, and their communities.
