2020 Short Term Visiting Scholar
Linguistics

Anna Christina Bentes, sponsored by the University of Campinas, joined the CU Boulder Department of Linguistics and CLASP program as a visiting scholar during March 2020. She is a professor of Sociolinguistics and Textual Linguistics at the Department of Linguistics at University of Campinas, Brazil. Her language studies are mostly based on the theory of social practice, focusing precisely on the relationship between verbal action, the linguistic system and other semiotic systems, and the ideas that speakers have about language and the social world. Her research interests are: the heterogeneity of the linguistic phenomenon; the development of styles and the formation of language registers, especially considering textual-discursive and multisemiotic resources; the phenomenon of language reflexivity; and the production, circulation, and reception of discourse genres.
