Shay Sullivan

Shay Sullivan is a theoretical linguist whose work in linguistics primarily is aimed to benefit and elevate the lives of marginalized and/or non-normative individuals. Her main work draws on theoretical and applied linguistics in the context of minority language revitalization. Shay is a practitioner of a highly effective method of language teaching, Accelerated Second Language Acquisition (ASLA©™), which she has modeled in several Indigenous communities who have seen great success in creating new speakers as a result. Shay also language documentation and description in addition to language revitalization. Lastly, Shay has great interest in exploring aspects of the social world, specifically power, as related to language and interaction. She has plans to use new tools from her studies at CU Boulder, including Conversation Analysis and literature in Language, Gender, and Sexuality to further explore language in the social world.
