As a third year doctoral student in the School of Education, and as a certified second language acquisition teacher with a background in the biological sciences, I am committed to helping emerging multilingual (EML) students succeed in content area classrooms, especially science. In order to teach students from other cultures, we must take into account the multiple factors affecting their learning: language, other aspects of their culture, personal aptitude, and the nature of the learning environment—which includes interactions with peers, mentors, teachers and others. My research draws from multiple disciplines in order to find ways to help EMLs achieve academic and personal success.
