Gino Canella is a doctoral student in the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication. His research focuses on youth participatory video and seeks to understand how media making can affect social change, challenge stereotypical media portrayals of race and class, and positively influence youth community engagement. Gino has worked professionally in television news production for 10 years and continues to produce and film commercial, non-profit, news and documentary projects. Gino earned a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Communication from Duquesne University in 2004 and a Master of Arts in Media Studies and Production from Temple University in 2013.
