Graduated with MA in 2017

I am a student in the Hispanic Linguistics MA program in the Spanish department at the University of Colorado, Boulder who is interested in both ethnographic and variationist approaches to the study of sociolinguistics. I am particularly interested in looking at how ideologies, in particular gender ideologies and language ideologies, influence language use. In terms of linguistic variables, I am particularly interested in phonetic variables rich in social meaning in Spanish although, in the future, I would also like to investigate other, nonphonemic variables. Through the course of my studies, I have developed a strong interest in studying these matters in two contexts, Juchitán, México, and Equatorial Guinea, where I would also be interested in studying the relationship between language and politics in more depth.
