Records Requests
CUPD complies with applicable laws pertaining to the release of open records. We are happy to help you with your request for information pursuant to the Colorado Open Records Law as found in CRS 24-72-201 et seq. and CRS 24-72-301 et seq., which allows for inspection of criminal justice records unless the release of such information would be contrary to state statute, prohibited by court order or Supreme Court rule, or contrary to the public interest. Some information within reports may be redacted as required by state law. All requests are processed as soon as possible, but may take up to three (3) business days. This timeline may be extended if extenuating circumstances exist that renders the report unavailable for immediate distribution.
Transparency
CUPD prides itself on its transparency, clear communication and community engagement. These efforts help increase trust and reduce crime. Along with keeping the community informed through our website, social media posts and through the media, CUPD offers additional opportunities to increase transparency.
Dashboards and Transparency Portals
CUPD provides two dashboards for the public to review and access data. Please click on the link to each dashboard to access the data. In the upper right corner of each map, there is helpful information including a video on how to use the dashboards, and a link to campus safety tips and information. At the bottom, there are different tabs to view more temporal and spatial details as well as glossaries for call and incident types.
Incidents and Additional Information
If you would like more information on a specific incident, please contact CUPD Records. Please note that additional information may not be available for cases that are being actively investigated.
Note to Media: Information may be updated as police investigate. Call types listed should reflect the final call type after an officer responds, not necessarily how the information was first received. If a call for service results in the creation of an incident report and an investigation, the final call type may not reflect the incident type. Media should verify all information through CUPD’s public information officer or by requesting a report prior to sharing the information. Email cupd_pio@colorado.edu
The CU Boulder Police Department utilizes certain information captured during its use of Flock Safety cameras, innovative technology used to help deter and solve crimes. Anyone can view information, including the number of vehicles detected, “hits” on vehicles and the number of reactive searches conducted. Please access the data on the Flock Transparency Portal.
If you are interested in information regarding off-campus incidents, the city of Boulder police department has its own crime dashboard and crime blotter.
