Meet your Beyond Campus Advisors: Prakriti

Hi!

I’m Prakriti—a psychology major with a minor in computer science and data science. But more importantly, I’m a proud parent of two very furry, four-legged children who bring endless joy into my life! You’ll hear me talk about them a lot because, well… they are simply the best babies in the world!

Now that the weather is finally starting to warm up (fingers crossed!), I’m all about making the most of the sunshine. And what better way to do that than picnics! This year, I’m on a mission to explore the best picnic spots in Colorado, and I want to share my discoveries with you all. So, grab a blanket, pack your favorite snacks (or just yourself and your furry besties), and let’s dive into some of the most stunning picnic spots in the state!

Wonderland Lake

Wonderland Lake, Boulder

Kicking things off locally, Wonderland Lake is a dreamy spot with easy trails that wrap around the water, offering a peaceful escape from the hustle. There’s plenty of space to lay out your picnic spread, play a game of frisbee or just soak up the sun. Plus, if you're feeling adventurous, this is a well-known fishing and paragliding area—so why not make a whole day of it?

Hollowell Park

Hollowell Park, Larimer County

Calling all nature lovers! If you’re all about lush greenery, Hollowell Park is the place to be. This shaded paradise is perfect for a quiet, relaxing afternoon filled with birdwatching, short and scenic hikes and picnic perfection. Picture yourself under a canopy of trees, a light breeze and the sweet sound of birds chirping—pure bliss!

Parfet Park

Parfet Park, Golden

If you want to stay close to civilization but still enjoy a slice of nature, Parfet Park in Golden is ideal. Located just a stone’s throw from downtown, this park has picnic tables, restrooms and stunning views. After your meal, you can take a stroll through the charming streets of Golden, grab a coffee or even go shopping. A perfect mix of city and nature vibes!

Lookout Mountain

Lookout Mountain Park, Jefferson County

Get ready for breathtaking views because Lookout Mountain Park is nothing short of spectacular! This spot is famous for its stunning scenery and rich history. Not only can you enjoy a picnic with jaw-dropping vistas, but you can also check out the Buffalo Bill Museum, grab a coffee or sandwich from the on-site gift shop and top it off with an ice cream treat. No need to pack lunch—just bring yourself and enjoy!

Cheesman Park

Cheesman Park, Denver

For those who love a good mix of beauty and mystery, Cheesman Park is a must-visit! If you read my October newsletter on haunted spots in Colorado, you might remember this one. With its eerie history and stunning open spaces, this park has a unique charm that makes it a perfect (and maybe slightly spooky?) picnic destination. Ghosts or not, it’s undeniably a gorgeous spot to spend an afternoon!

So, there you have it—five amazing picnic spots to explore in Colorado! Whether you're in the mood for lakeside relaxation, mountain views or a haunted picnic (if you dare), there's something for everyone.
