Framework: Barn Swallows

Framework is an installation artwork that examines the intersection of ecology and culture and its relation to traditional building styles. The structure plays on the kind of building traditions that barn swallows use in their nest making. In particular this work investigates building codes or building standards used for roofs, trusses, and rafters. The work intentionally utilizes building components such as oblique butt joints, joist hangers, mending plates, hurricane ties, corrugated roofing, and structural connector screws and nails to build the spiral like structure.
