Katlin Risen

Katlin Risen is a first-generation student from Springfield, Illinois earning her Bachelor's Degree in History with Minors in Space and English. At CU Katlin was involved in her community through reorganizing and leading the History Club and working as the first ever History Department Intern, creating and maintaining the department’s social media presence.
She also completed multiple independent research projects including two published in the Colorado Historian: “Sarojini Naidu, Vijaya Lakshmi Pandit, and Lakshmi Sahgal: The idea of the gender complement” and “The Bard, the Romantic, and the Nationalist: Thomas Moore’s Irish Melodies”
Katlin’s research interests include the history of women in the Soviet Union, the Space Race, propaganda, and USSR/US relations. She completed her Senior Honors Thesis, “We appreciate your interest”: Women in the Soviet Union and American Space Race Propaganda”, on these topics with Dr. Erin Hutchinson as her advisor. Katlin plans to expand on this research by including topics of children’s books, religious topics, and consumerism during the Space Race.
Katlin's advisor was Erin Hutchinson. Katlin's graduate student mentor was Cate Costley.
