McNair Scholars Attend Graduate School Retreat in Wisconsin

In September 202

UW Madison Event
1, 21 juniors and seniors of the McNair Scholars Program traveled to Wisconsin! They started their trip with a grad school visit hosted by the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Christopher Yue (Asst Dean of Diversity, Inclusion, & Funding), Audra Hernandez (UW Madison McNair Director), and her McNair alumni grad student panel welcomed them to campus. They had a wonderful time learning from them and visiting their beautiful campus. They toured the Physics and Cellular & Molecular Biology labs, explored the Chazen Museum of Art, enjoyed the views at the Terrace, and even tasted the delicious ice cream from the Babcock Dairy Store. They also attended the WAEOPP McNair/SSS Graduate School Retreat up in Wisconsin Dells! They heard from amazing speakers, such as Carl McNair and Dr. Don Asher. At this retreat, we attended informative workshops, such as Grad School 101, Writing About Identity, Personal Statements, Mock Interviews, Crafting a Portfolio, Using Mindfulness for Mental Health, and Negotiating an Offer. Not only did scholars learn so many tips about applying for graduate school, but they also grew closer as they continue on this journey together towards obtaining a PhD degree.
