New Co-taught MASP Course

New Co-taught MASP Course: Student Ambassadors for Inclusive Pedagogy
Kate Observes MASP Students Learning

Kate and Karen were excited to receive an Undergraduate Education Development Program grant from the College of Arts and Science to develop and teach a new MASP course that they have called, “Student Ambassadors for Inclusive Pedagogy.” They are teaching the class for the first time this semester. This class takes an interdisciplinary look at the impacts of inclusivity (or lack thereof) in higher education and works to help students gain agency as active participants in their education at CU. The class combines Kate’s expertise in the science of learning and Karen’s expertise in dialogue practice and narrative writing and sharing. Students in the class will learn

  • how power and privilege manifests in higher education

  • how experiences of inclusion and exclusion in classroom settings can impact learning, and

  • how to maintain a focus on learning in non-inclusive environments

As the “student ambassadors” part of the course title suggests, the course has a “sharing” aspect to it. Students will write their own personal narratives about inclusion/exclusion in education and then design their own “ambassador” experience by deciding how to share their narrative and who to share it with. We hope that this course will bring an innovative design to both the empowerment of students to gain agency in their academic life and the promotion of inclusive pedagogy at CU.
