In a unique partnership with SCALES-OKN, a new nonprofit dedicated to transforming court transparency, the Visual Evidence Lab won a 2025 American Council of Learned Societies Sustaining Community Connections Grant. Scheduled to take place in summer and fall 2025, the project will build a coalition between academics and nonprofits for sustainable public engagement; provide a demonstration and analysis of how, and to what ends, municipal and state courts use cell phone video; train publicly engaged scholars who work at the intersection of media, technology and law; and promote justice-driven career pathways for new PhDs in the humanities and social sciences.
