Welcome to the website of the Chuong lab at the University of Colorado Boulder! We are located in the BioFrontiers Institute and the Department of Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology. Our lab uses computational and experimental approaches to better understand genome evolution in mammals, focusing mostly on immune gene regulation.
We are particularly interested in the biology of parasitic genetic elements known as transposons, which make up over 50% of the human genome sequence. Recent research suggests these "bugs" in our code have important roles regulating cellular genes, particularly in the context of immune regulation. Our team works to uncover their hidden yet likely substantial impact on human health and disease.
