Through the Colorado Diversity Initiative, we seek to support underserved undergraduate students in STEM who want to engage in research and prepare for graduate studies.

The main way we do this is through the Summer Multicultural Access to Research Training (SMART) Program, which is open to undergraduate students who currently attend another institution. We also partner with departments across campus to help facilitate connections with campus undergraduate STEM resources.

If you are a current CU Boulder undergraduate student interested in doing STEM summer research, apply directly to the Leadership Alliance program. Current CU Boulder students are not eligible for CU Boulder’s SMART program.

Summer Multicultural Access to Research Training (SMART) Program

This residential internship brings undergraduates from institutions nationwide to CU Boulder to engage in a science, technology, math and engineering research and prepare for graduate school. The goal of the program is to prepare a diverse pool of undergraduates for PhD study and successful careers in STEM fields. Rising juniors or seniors from underrepresented and underserved backgrounds are especially encouraged to apply.
