Who is considered an eligible dependent?

  • Spouses of insured students
  • Dependent children of insured students under the age of 26 who are not self-supporting.
  • Children shall cease to be dependent if one of the following events occurs:
    1) The end of the month in which they marry, or,
    2) The end of the month in which they turn 26 years of age

How to enroll eligible dependents

Undergraduate students, graduate students, graduate assistants and graduate fellows can enroll eligible dependents in CU Gold SHIP through their MyCUHealth portal.

Spousal/dependent coverage period

Spousal/dependent health insurance eligibility expires when the insured student leaves or graduates from CU Boulder or no longer meets eligibility requirements.

Dependents must be re-enrolled each fall semester to continue receiving health insurance coverage. Re-enrollment is not automatic. The only exception is dependents enrolled as graduate assistants, graduate fellows and/or graduate trainees. Dependent coverage for these students will carry over each semester.

Children, spouses and dependent's health services

Medical Services at Wardenburg and Counseling & Psychiatric Services (CAPS) do not provide health care services for children, spouses or dependents. Dependent children of students insured through CU Gold SHIP should visit the Anthem website for a list of participating children's health care providers in their local community.
