Meet Corry Smith, director for Fraternity and Sorority Life

Corry Smith

Corry Smith has been named the new director of Fraternity and Sorority Life at CU Boulder and will start in his new role on Jan. 21.

Q. Can you share a little about yourself and where you're from?

A. I was born and raised in the south suburbs of Chicago, Illinois, and am the oldest of two children. A few fun facts:

  • I am a superfan of the PBS show Arthur, indoor cycling, movies and I love attending concerts.
  • I am a first-generation college graduate, a three-time alumnus of Indiana State University, and currently a doctoral candidate in the Instructional Systems Technology program at Indiana University - Bloomington.

Q. What inspired you to pursue a career in fraternity and sorority life?

A. After completing a graduate practicum experience with the Fraternity and Sorority Life office at Indiana State University, I realized that I enjoyed working with sororities and fraternities. At the conclusion of my practicum experience, I was offered an opportunity to begin my career as a sorority and fraternity advisor at ISU the following semester.

Q. If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?

A. If I could only eat one meal for the rest of my life, it would have to be shrimp and grits with a side of asparagus.

Q. What’s one piece of advice you’d share with student leaders?

A. One piece of advice I would share with student leaders is actually how I choose to approach each day and that is to be the change you wish to see in your personal life, immediate environment and in the world. Change can feel impossible at times but with patience, goal setting and planning, change can be achieved on both small and large scales.

Q. What are you most excited about in this role?

A. There are so many things that I am excited about as I prepare to step into this role. First, I am excited to continue to build on the rich history of sororities and fraternities at CU Boulder. There is a big opportunity ahead to share the power of the sorority and fraternity experience—how it enriches lives, develops leaders and fosters a sense of belonging and connectedness. Second, I am excited to prioritize relationship building and community amongst students, faculty, staff and alumni who believe in and are invested in the success of sorority and fraternity experience.
